I’m so glad you’re here.
It’s vulnerable to choose someone to support you when life gets hard, and you’ve taken an important first step. Here’s a bit about me.
Hi, I’m Betsy. I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker based in Chattanooga, Tennessee with over 15 years of experience. I lead with curiosity and kindness to create a space that welcomes all the parts of yourself and your life experience. I approach therapy through an attachment-based, Internal Family Systems focused, somatic-informed lens. I prioritize authentic connection and hold the difficult parts of your story with tenderness and care, offering honesty and presence rather than silver linings or quick fixes. I believe in meeting people in their pain and holding space for the stories that shape them.
ABOUT MEI entered the social work and mental health field from a life marked by many losses, each one cracking me open in devastating and transformative ways. But I learned that grief doesn’t end — it integrates, asking us to rebuild around what’s been lost to find meaning in what remains. My experiences propelled me to earn my BA in Social Work from Warren Wilson College in 2010, to complete my Master’s in Social Work from Western Carolina University in 2016, and become a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of Tennessee and North Carolina. Since then, I’ve worked over 15 years in the mental health field across ages, backgrounds, traumas, and histories in a wide variety of therapeutic settings: private practice, intensive outpatient programs, inpatient rehab centers, and most recently as an onsite therapist for a college counseling center.
My approach to therapy is relational, collaborative, and grounded in an integrative, evidence-based approach rooted in Internal Family Systems, somatic therapy, and attachment theory. I guide my clients to reconnect with their inner wisdom, trust their bodies, and build compassionate relationships with every part of themselves.
Whether it be grief, loss, trauma, anxiety, depression, motherhood or prenatal/postpartum transitions, I support women who are trying to make sense of themselves in seasons of immense change. If you are seeking a space where you can show up as your whole self — your behaviors, your feelings, your past, your contradictions — I would love to connect with you.
You’re not a problem to be solved but a story to be understood.
My Approach
-
Internal Family Systems
Internal Family Systems (IFS) is based on the idea that our behaviors, even the ones we deeply struggle with, make sense in the context of our lived experiences. This evidence-based approach understands emotional distress as arising from internal protective patterns that developed in response to life events. IFS helps individuals access a calm, grounded inner state from which they can better understand and care for these patterns, leading to improved self-regulation, emotional resilience, and meaningful change.
-
Attachment Theory
Attachment-based therapy understands relationship wounds as deeply connected to our early experiences of connection and care. By exploring what attachment looked like for you in the past, you can develop more secure ways of relating to yourself and others through consistency, attunement, and repair.
-
Somatic Therapy
Somatic-based therapy recognizes that our bodies hold important information about stress, emotion, and past experiences—especially during periods of grief, postpartum transition, or prolonged stress. Rather than focusing only on thoughts or insight, this approach brings gentle awareness to physical sensations, patterns of tension, and nervous system responses as part of the healing process. By learning to listen to the body and respond with steadiness and care, clients often experience greater regulation, emotional safety, and a deeper sense of connection to themselves.
Where your inner world can rise without fear, soften without shame, and heal without hurry.
